Arthur's Plumbing Express has handled water heater repair in Port St. Lucie for 36 years, family-owned since 1990 and licensed in Florida under CFC1432321. When the hot water stops, we diagnose the unit, explain what it needs before any work starts, and get most homes back in service the same day. We repair both tank and tankless systems, so one call covers whichever one you have.
A well-maintained tank water heater is key to enjoying uninterrupted access to hot water. However, over time, even the most robust systems may encounter issues. Here are signs that your tank water heater needs professional attention:
Most Port St. Lucie homes run a conventional 40 to 80 gallon tank, usually a Rheem or a Ruud, tucked into a garage or a utility closet on a slab. Those units fail in predictable ways, and the parts that fail are the ones we stock.
Tankless systems are a different repair entirely. Navien and Stiebel Eltron units heat on demand, so a fault shows up as an error code rather than a cold shower, and the fix is usually a flush, a sensor or a gas supply problem. If you have one of those, our tankless water heater repair page covers it in detail. If your tank is past saving, we also handle water heater installation.
We would rather repair a unit than sell you one, so we give you the reasoning instead of just a recommendation. Three things decide it: the age of the heater, the cost of the repair set against the cost of a new unit, and whether the tank itself has failed.
Elements, thermostats, anode rods, dip tubes and relief valves are all worth replacing on a heater with life left in it. A tank leaking at the seam is not repairable at any price, and once a unit is well into its second decade, a large repair is usually money spent twice. When replacement is the honest answer, we quote water heater replacement in Port St. Lucie and you can spread it out with Wisetack financing with no hard credit check.
We install and repair Rheem and Ruud tank water heaters, and Navien and Stiebel Eltron tankless systems. Those are the four lines we know best, and carrying them means the common failure parts are on the truck rather than on order.
We are not limited to them. Our technicians service whatever is already in the house, whoever installed it, so you do not need to track down the original contractor to get a heater looked at.
Water drawn from the Floridan aquifer is hard, and hard water is the single biggest reason water heaters fail early in St. Lucie County. Dissolved minerals drop out of suspension when the water is heated and settle on the tank floor and around the heating element as scale.
That layer is what causes the rumbling, and it forces the heater to run longer to reach the same temperature, so the energy cost climbs while the service life falls. An annual sediment flush is the fix, and it is part of what our Express Club maintenance plan is for. If you would rather treat the cause than the symptom, ask us about water softener and filtration installation.

Repair usually makes sense if the unit is under ten years old and the problem is a thermostat, a heating element, or a valve. Replace it if the tank itself is leaking, or if it is past twelve years and repairs are starting to stack up. We give you both numbers before you decide.
A conventional tank water heater lasts eight to twelve years in Port St. Lucie, and hard water shortens that. Mineral scale settles in the bottom of the tank, forces the burner to work harder, and corrodes the lining. An annual flush is the single best way to reach the upper end of that range.
Look for standing water or rust stains around the base, dampness on the floor near the drain pan, and moisture at the pipe connections on top. A leak from a fitting is repairable; water seeping from the tank body is not. Shut off the water supply to the unit and call us.
Once a year for most Treasure Coast homes. Our water is hard, so sediment and mineral scale build up faster here than in most of the country. If you are on well water, or the tank has already started making a rumbling or popping sound, flush it every six months instead.
We install Rheem and Ruud tank water heaters and Navien and Stiebel Eltron tankless systems. For a repair on any unit, send us the make and model from the data plate on the side and we will tell you what parts are available, and whether the unit is still under manufacturer warranty, before we schedule the visit.
